Sultan Hasanuddin International Airport IATA: UPG ICAO: WAAA is located 20 km from Makassar and has flights to Jakarta, Yogyakarta, Surabaya, Denpasar, Banjarmasin, Balikpapan, Kendari, Palu, Manado, Gorontalo, Ambon, Ternate, Manokwari, Sorong, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore and Jayapura.
Fares start at about Rp 500,000 on Lion Air from Denpasar.
A taxi to the city should cost about Rp 70,000 if arranged directly with the driver. The official airport charge is Rp 100,000. There is a free shuttle bus from the airport bottom level to the main road where you can catch a bemo into town for Rp 4,000. The bemo stop is calledMandai and the bemos will take you directly all the wayto Makassar Mall.
Makassar is a major port for Pelni ships. It is about 16 hours to Balikpapan, 24 to Surabaya, and 30 to Tanjung Priok.
